Old outdoor stalls were demolished, improvements were made to the rear of the Old Market Hall building, new fencing has been put up as well as new lighting, drainage and footpaths.
Councillor John Briggs Cabinet Member for Asset Management, Culture and Housing, at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Markets are the backbone of the local economy and in North Lincolnshire we love them.
“We’ve invested £150,000 to bring an extra 100 one hour free car parking spaces to the town centre and make it much easier for shoppers to visit.
“This is set to be one of the most popular of our town centre car parks as it’s on the market’s doorstep and just a minute’s walk from the Foundry and two minutes from The Parishes shopping centres.
Councillor Liz Redfern, the authority's leader, added: “Our new car park will boost footfall in the town centre at a time when high street shops up and down the country are struggling in the face of stiff competition from online retailers and the global economic downturn.
“We’re committed to attracting business investment in North Lincolnshire and renting a market stall is a great way to try out a new venture with very low start-up costs.
“You can enjoy being your own boss with rents starting from under £10 at Ashby Market.”
Julien Lewis, President of the National Market Traders Federation, said: "I am very pleased to learn of the continuing improvements being made at Scunthorpe Market.
"The success of The Podium has been well documented and I feel this new development regarding car parking can only be to the benefit of shoppers and traders alike.
"North Lincolnshire Council continue to show their commitment to their markets and we at the National Market Traders' Federation welcome these initiatives."
Anna Huggins, from Anna Belle Designs in Scunthorpe Market, said: "There is a real buzz in the market again. We've had people come to see us who haven't been to the market for years.
"They said how it had changed and how much better it looks."
