Between 150 and 200 fewer students predicted at John Leggott College in Scunthorpe this year

Between 150 and 200 fewer students will start courses at John Leggott College this academic year, it has been revealed.

Admissions at the college, on West Common Lane in Scunthorpe, have dropped by 12 per cent this year compared to September 2011.

Principal David Vasse said: "John Leggott College predicts that between 150 and 200 fewer students will start courses in 2012-2013 compared to the previous year.

"This is as a result of demographic decline in the region, though enrolments from North Lincolnshire schools are close to expectation.

"At present there are 250 fewer students, but enrolments are continuing this month and some students will start courses in November and January.

"The drop is 12 per cent, in line with the demographic decline trend, though it may level out once enrolments are complete."
