ORGANISERS of a monthly disco to help keep kids off the street are celebrating after scooping a grant.

The Insaniacs Disco club has been awarded a £1,500 slice of a £50,000 fund to be split between community organisations.

The Westcliff-based venture is all about keeping kids off the street and having fun and is one of a number of schemes to have got lucky with a grant application.

The money has been supplied by North Lincolnshire Homes (NLH) which has also handed donations to the Street Pastors, Independent Living and more.

Michelle Milburn, Insaniacs organiser, said: "We used to hold the discos and they were really popular but we had to stop because we ran out of money. I applied for other grants but kept getting turned down.

"I was delighted when we were approved for this one – I'm always being approached by parents and even kids asking if we'll be putting the discos on again.

"The application process was easy and the forms were simple which was great, I'd definitely recommend applying to other groups who've been denied funding elsewhere."

The Community Development Grant Scheme is open to all causes which will have a positive impact on the lives of NLH tenants.

So far, £18,914 has been divided between 11 groups, but there are still plenty of chances to secure a share.

NLH resident involvement manager, Karen Cowan, said: "So many worthwhile local groups have come forward to benefit from the grants, it is remarkable how many selfless people are working for the good of others.

"We want to invest in the future development of our neighbourhoods and this funding will go some way to achieving that."

“Good luck with the discos, I can't understand why all community halls are not running them, we used to have dancing at some of them but not anymore.”
