£1bn boost if Humber Bridge tolls axed
A £1-BILLION windfall for the local economy would come from scrapping the Humber Bridge tolls, a leaked report has revealed.
The Scunthorpe Telegraph yesterday saw a copy of the study commissioned by the four unitary authorities bordering the bridge.
-

The consultants said the benefit to the area would be about £39-million in 2009, and a staggering £1.1-billion over the next 25 years.
An option of reducing the toll to £1 per car was also examined.
The study was commissioned at a time when the Humber Bridge Board is proposing to raise the tolls again.
The Scunthorpe Telegraph has been running its A Toll Too Far campaign since mid-September to stop the Humber Bridge tolls rising again.
The campaign is calling for a public inquiry into the proposals.

“Dont these Hullygullys do your head in. Tonight they moan that they are more deserving of trade than Leeds because they say that they got more unemployment, My heart bleeds for them. A free bridge on the whole will only benefit Hullygullys. They never stop moaning and they wont stop moaning until they have taken all the trade from all the surrounding areas including the trade on the south bank.”

“I'm 15 and have just seen about the Humber Bridge tolls on the news. What I don't get is why does a bridge need a control room anyway? What are they controlling? I mean, it's not like air traffic control or something...it's just a bridge...”

“Of course I agree with the campaign to axe this toll charge.
But I have to say that ST is sounding more and more like the worst tabloid newspapers. This headline is simply childish and inulting the intelligence of its readers, much like red-top tabloids.
Change the tune please ST.”

“Yes its one sided, the telegraph wont be reporting on the opinions of the actual staff the humber bridge employs. Its becoming boring and tiring now, these tolls will never be scrapped, anyone living in the real world must realise this”
