2011 could be big year for United striker Matt Godden
HAVING just had his first taste of Championship football with Scunthorpe United, young striker Matt Godden is hoping 2011 will be a big year for him.
After emerging through the youth ranks, he is in his fourth season with the Iron.

ONE TO WATCH: Matt Godden.
Yet he did not originally start as a striker.
"I played in midfield back home in Canterbury," explained the 19-year-old.
"It was only when I was about 14 that I suddenly got switched up front for one game.
"I scored twice and that is where I have played ever since.
"I thrive on scoring goals, I come alive in the box."
Godden signed for a soccer school in Kent, playing matches against academy teams from professional clubs.
It was his two against a young team from Scunthorpe that persuaded youth coach Tony Daws to bring him to Glanford Park.
"I have nothing but praise for Tony. He has done everything to help me," Godden continued.
"Although this is my second year as a professional, it is really my first because my birthday is in late July, right at the end of the age year. I am only just 19."
Godden is top scorer for the reserves this season with six goals and has been described by boss Ian Baraclough as the 'best finisher at the club'.
He might just get a chance to try to show that again in the FA Cup against Everton on Saturday.

“Jones....Jones... Jones, Oh yes that guy, does he ever play?????? Always on the injured list. Move him on, and move Byrne on as well, both too slow and old for this division. With the money try and buy someone decent to partner Mirfin (we must retain him) and blood young Canavan.

“I'd rather see us sell Murphy, Jones and Forte and play Canavan, Godden,Lillis myself.
As for Godden - he looks a good player but as a forward, over exposure is a risk because he could do everything and not score and disapear, like Andy Parton...I think he should be a permanet on the bench this season and then start him next season in Div One. I would, however play him against Everton on Saturday.
Up the Iron!”

“Godden is already here so are we starting to big existing players up because we are not signing anybody.
We did this in the summer with Forte and look where that got us. I see the tentative link to Will Hoskins so us seasoned fans can see through this charade.
Await to Godden been touted as the "Just Like a New Signing" at the end of this month as another transfer window passes us by.
SUFC - you are a joke, Wharton you are a club killer.”

“Ah yes, the old bigging-up-a-current-player story. Don't tell me - he's like signing a new player? And so early in the transfer window. ET, you do not disappoint us.”
