300 in Scunthorpe mourn Dave Sleight - well-known local footballer nicknamed Snake Hips
More than 300 mourners yesterday (Tues Jan 8) attended a funeral service held at Woodlands Crematorium in Scunthorpe for Dave Sleight - well-known former local footballer and golfer.
The service was conducted by retired vicar of Burton Stather, Canon Peter Hearn, who read a tribute from widow Tina Sleight to the man she described as the love of her life.

One of Dave' sons, Mark, also paid tribute, referring to Snake Hips - his dad's nickname on the soccer pitch.
Three of David's favourite songs - House of the Rising Sun, Walking in the Air, and Words - were played during the service.

In line wiith the family's request, hundrds of pounds were collected afterwards for Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe where foundry worker Dave died, aged 63, on Decenber 28
Fund-raising for the hospice in his memory will continue with a football match at Cemetery Road ground in Scunthorpe on April 28 and a golf tournament in Bridlington on June 8.
In Septenber, runners from the town's Cottage Beck Snooker Club will take part in the Great North Run to boost the fund-raising.
