FILM fans felt as if they were part of the picture as Scunthorpe's Vue Cinema showed North Lincolnshire's first ever 3D movies.

The cinema, based in The Parishes, screened Ice Age 3 on its new 9.5-metre by six-metre RealD screen yesterday.

Among the first to don special black-rimmed glasses and experience the realistic technology were David Kitchen, 24, and Paul Bradley, also 24.

After emerging from the 158-seater auditorium, Mr Kitchen, of Ogilvy Drive, Bottesford, said: "It was excellent.

"We were sat there and it felt like the things in the film were right in front of you and you could grab them out of the sky."

Mr Bradley, of Cloister Close, Scunthorpe, also enjoyed the 3D experience.

He said: "It was phenomenal and it felt like you were there.

"I would recommend it to anybody, just to try it."

Before yesterday, the closest cinemas offering the technology were in Hull and Sheffield.

Further films to be shown in 3D at the cinema this year will include James Cameron's Avatar and Disney and Pixar's Up.

    “Yeah it was rubbish!!

Also, my wife recently hired Journey to the Centre of the Earth on DVD which you could watch in 3D or 'normal'. When I tried to watch it in 3D it wouldn't work for me. Not sure whether it's cos my eyes have gone so much with age and the glasses wouldn't work with my normal glasses but it was weird......”

Does anyone know If the 3D glasses will fit over prescription glasses? 3D isn't any good if its out of focus.”
