4,000 homes in Scunthorpe experience power cut after cable fault
OVER 4,000 homes in Bottesford and Messingham lost power last night after a stretch of cable became faulty.
Shortly before 6pm last night (Saturday, January 5) Northern Power Grid was alerted to a power cut affecting 4,280 homes.
Engineers manually re-routed the power supply in four stages, with all homes re-supplied just before 7pm.
The faulty section of cable has since been isolated pending further investigation, but Northern Power Grid does not believe the power cut to have been caused by cable theft.

A spokeswoman for Northern Power Grid said: "There is nothing to suggest cable theft at this moment and I think we would have known at this stage if it had been theft. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience."
The power cut affected businesses as well as homes, with dinner service at The Dolphin Inn, in Bottesford, coming to a standstill.
Chris Johnson, manager of The Dolphin, said: "We were full at the time of the power cut, but had to pretty much shut down service while it happened.
"It couldn't have come at a worse time but we were OK safety wise with backup lighting."

“So on the back of theover's comment (of which I agree) the electicity suppliers should be upgrading a lot more mains rather than just those that they have been doing along Brigg Road for months.”

“I can't make my mind up, is including a raft of tweets representing the thoughts of ordinary people, or is it lazy journalism to use twitter as a source?”

“That's 3 times since October by my reckoning and all at the same time of day. Is the system not up to to tea time demand ? Don't suppose we'll be offered a rebate, just put up with it and continue to pay through the nose for third world service”

“The only time I have a power cut is when I forget to charge my token meter”
