VIDEO: About 50 people protest outside Scunthorpe Civic Centre against changes by North Lincolnshire Council to youth services
Around 50 people protested against changes to youth services in North Lincolnshire outside the Civic Centre in Scunthorpe yesterday (Tuesday Feb 19).
The council's controlling Conservative Group say the changes, which will see services commissioned by the authority from other organisations, will lead to more activities for youngsters at times they want to participate in them.
However, protesters say it will lead to redundancies and cuts to the service that is delivered.
Protesters held banners exclaiming ‘No Cuts’ and ‘Not in my name’ as well as ‘Waltham – Y U No Listen’.
Gravestones with the words ‘RIP The Base’ were also held up – as other protesters played guitars shouting: ‘This is what democracy looks like’.
An extraordinary meeting was held last night (Tuesday) following the North Lincolnshire Council budget meeting.
The meeting was called by Labour councillors – asking the council to reconsider its decision.
The authority, which is Conservative controlled, did not reconsider it's decision, meaning that the changes will go ahead as outlined.

“After reading this article and viewing said photograph via the link, it once again becomes apparent that certain people can always be relied upon to behave in an irresponsible manner under the guise of supposed political protests ! Considering this was an issue regarding youth services and the majority of protesters were exactly that 'youths' I feel that to behave in this manner somewhat breaks the back of any argument or cause you are fighting ,not to mention the fact you are setting a terrible example to the very people you profess to be supporting. Poor show !”

“I don't need a "spell check" function, John C".
As for my comments being "pathetic", then one of the reasons that England is failing in all aspects is that many people cannot read, write or spell correctly. The cause of this has been the failure of Labour to educate the children for the future, send them on to so called universities that are no more than an attempt to manipulate the unemployment figures.
Youth services would not be needed if education was done correctly between the years 4 to 17!”

“what has labours cut of 3 years ago got to do with handing over the running of youth services to the voluntry sector, the increase of £150,000 is a smoke screen, for the policy of moving youth services to there friends , like Savile was, maggie got him the keys to Broadmoor
you must be sick to believe that the Victims of Savile and other preditory pedo's are false- sham -bogus- couterfiet or phony
the only thing that is spurious is your verbal diarrhea a pile of it

“Let me try again and see if I can keep on the right side of the blog police; whichever political group or PR Comms tsar in NLC it was this time!? Lol ;-)
Rightly AND justly in reviewing and revising its youth service provision, NLC has consulted, surveyed and listened to 2000 young people rather than a handful of protesters.
And going off the scenes from BBC Look North, protesters who were hopefully not representative of the vast majority of North Lincolnshire's young people?!
Lets reflect on the fact that Labour CUT £194K from the youth service budget in 2011. Fewer than 15% of North Lincolnshire's young people use the service and, the number of regular attendees was continually dropping. Clearly something is amiss as regards the standard of NLC youth service provision.
I am led to believe that no effort and/or commitment was being put in by those concerned to stop the rot. AND, if I may add, to avoid what I perceive to be a waste of tax payers' money.
I am encouraged that my not insubstantial council tax is to be wisely and effectively used to provide a much more improved youth service sessions and activities. And hopefully that public investment will meet the expectations and recognition of the 2000 surveyed and, a far more respectful and credible attendance and representation of North Lincolnshire's young people.
As regards those who are prepared, when all else fails, to come with scaremongering tactics to hold us to ransom with the moral blackmail of their spurious, opportunist arguments i.e Saville etc!
Better still the dimwit lefty on BBC Look North who came with that old chestnut of "this will put kids out on the street and who know's what they will get up to"!! This after NLC have categorically stated that it is putting public/tax payers' money into MANY MORE and IMPROVED youth sessions and activities.
PLEASE stop insulting our intelligence and keep such claptrap for hoodwinking, the naive apathetic and gullible of Scunthorpe! And more importantly, start being better role models and stop failing our youth by your conduct and language. They know who they are!”

“While a ruling group has the RIGHT to revise its youth service provision the claim of justly is a a differrant matter
To replace qualified proffessional youth workers and go back voluntryism and a believe that
all these volunters act without compulsion or remuneration is not born out by horrific cases that keep coming to light, that these these volunters such as Savile were in fact sexual preditors on mainly vunarable youth.
The Support to change from a professional to a voluntry has particulae significance in Scunthorpe council chamber as the Honourable Judge stated " there are members in that council chamber that new what was happening in the Spooner case
In thise case Cllr Waltham is adding £100,000 to the Youth service, so why the dogma that the authority has to put the Youth Sevice in the voluntry sector that has continualy failed to protect the vunerable The Savile case surely makes the princible of supporting the Youth service with volunters a risk policy, and a policy that should have been left in the past

“There are plenty of things to protest about , Cut backs on all services ,Yet still pouring money into failing EU coffers , getting little back , about time we protested about some of these things .immigration , migration , asylum , aid to other country's government borrowing to do so . And our taxes raised to pay for it all .”

“A photograph of that renowned stalwart NLC Labour councillor Mick Grant reportedly "revving up" up a handful of protesters outside the Civic Centre last night:

And to think some are touting this eejit to be the next leader of NLC come 2015. Says he rolling on the floor laughing.
But that's Scunthorpe for you!! ;-)”
