ALAN Knill is leaving Bury for Scunthorpe United, it has been confirmed this lunchtime.

The Iron have settled on a compensation package with the Shakers for the 46-year-old, paving the way for him to take the manager's job at Glanford Park.

His Gigg Lane assistant Chris Brass and goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler will also join him at United, to form a new-look managerial set-up.

As the Telegraph exclusively revealed earlier in the week, Knill has always been the Iron's top choice to succeed Ian Baraclough.

He told his Shakers players the news after training today, shortly before Bury relased a statement on their website this lunchtime.

"It is with deep regret that we announce Alan Knill is no longer manager of Bury Football Club," it read.

"The club have reluctantly agreed a compensation package with Scunthorpe United for Alan to take over the manager's role with immediate effect."

Knill had been in charge at Gigg Lane for three years, guiding the Shakers to the League Two play-offs in 2008, having taken over 12 months earlier with the club at the bottom end of the table.

Scunthorpe United have yet to confirm whether Knill and Brass will be in the dugout for Saturday's visit to Norwich City.

Not many clubs can boast that eh?”

    “Mike,
It's Adkins and he left for a massive pay rise and to join an ambitious club that are much much bigger than Scunny and Bury put together.”

“Just heard on BBC RADIO HUMBERSIDE that the chairman of S.U.F.C.had already spoken to Alan Knill 8 days ago so it seems strange why Ak should deny any knowledge of an approach,he seems a little less honourable as time passes. The presenter of Radio Humberside Burnsy has also stated that he spoke to Ak last monday about the vacant role at Scunny. It seems that this deal has been planned a long time ago and it was all a matter of timing.Interesting that not one supporter of S.U.FC has made a call on their football phone in programme.Apparently Knill will be live on tonight's programme between now and 6pm now there's a surprise.”

“I've got every sympathy with Burt, but unfortunately thats football, if everyone stuck to contracts we'd still have Nigel here. Good luck to Bury in their promotion push.
As for Scunny I think Knill could be a decent appointment. not sure he's an immediate impact manager, so could struggle over the next few weeks but at least he can have a look at the squad before the summer.
    Good luck Alan and United”

“Managers move. Knill will be our third one this season. It's part of football. It doesn't bother me at all. As one of ours use to say "control the controllables".

Hoping we don't have to play you next season.”

“I've just been listening to Alan Knill's final farewell talk to BBC RADIO MANCHESTER.Although he seems very sincere with his words i quote"It's been a tough choice and not one taken lightly,i've made Bury a popular club one that many supporters will enjoy watching"Well i think the fact that he touted for the scunny job in his post press comments last saturday after the Vale game slightly contradicts how it has been a tough decision leaving Bury.I think it was always his aim and he seems to indicate that others have made this move possible and quite speedily when this is not the case.If we had refused him permission he would have just walked out on us in anycase.I hope to God we don't Paul Simpson he's worst than useless and once turned us down as manger some time ago,i wonder what he's feeling right now (nice piece of humble pie perhaps).”
