Alan Knill on verge of Scunthorpe United exit early today
Speculation is mounting manager Alan Knill is this morning on the verge of being sacked by Scunthorpe United.
Saturday's 3-0 defeat at the MK Dons is likely to have been the 48-year-old's final game in charge of the Iron, marking the end of a difficult 18 months in charge at Glanford Park.

That defeat, Scunthorpe's fifth in the last seven games, left the club third bottom in League One, four points from safety.
Knill has won just 14 of his 69 league games during his tenure - a win percentage of 20.2 per cent which is the second lowest in the club's history.

At several different stages of Saturday's game fans called for his head, making his position largely untenable, though Knill told the Telegraph after the match that he would not resign.
Former manager Brian Laws is tipped to replace Knill at Glanford Park - six years after he left the Iron to take charge at Sheffield Wednesday.
The club have yet to make any official announcement.

“By the way Angrier, despite what we all feel abut Alan knill as manager I think that you're comment about the squirrel is not in good taste.”

“It had to happen. Although I'm not sure that a third spell for Brian will work but let's hope so. I remember many calling for his head when he was in charge previously.”

“Well, I said weeks ago I'd be happy for Laws to come back and attempt a rescue job and I stick by that. Had we not been in this position I would have said Laws was a step backwards but I've got faith in him getting us out of this mess and restoring some pride and commitment in the club. opefully he can sign a good few loan players in the Jan window aswell as we know he's got a track record of signing quality players (not all great but not this mediocrity we've had in the last two years). Hopefully some fans will return now and I'm trusting Wharton has had this up his sleeve for some weeks so deserves some credit. Just need to find a new Chairman now.”

“If the squirrel's attempt had been sucessful that would have been a cheaper option. Conspiracy theories anyone?”

“Knill should have been sacked at 5pm saturday afternoon, though he probably should really have been sacked weeks ago.
Wharton took his eye off the ball this time and should have acted long ago.
Lets hope the Knill sacking bit is true anyway.”

“Has to be Laws, he knows the club inside and out and can rescue this season for Scunthorpe.”

“My money would be on Laws. Its the easy option but the experience is there and the Chairman knows exactly what he's getting.
Will he turn it round?
Well it won't be the toughest task he's ever been charged with!”
