CAMPAIGNERS who are fighting to block Eco2's plans to build the Brigg biomass plant say they are not going to give up – despite having all of their banners removed.

Residents in Scawby, who had taken a firm stand against Eco2 North Lincs Ltd's plans to build a biomass plant on their doorsteps, pinned up campaign posters and banners throughout the village and on private property in a bid to raise awareness of the issue.

Residents attended Brigg Town Council meeting on Monday night to reaffirm their concerns over the controversial plant.

But when residents awoke on Thursday morning, all their posters – including a giant fabric banner which cost £85 – had been removed from private property and streets in the region.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "We spoke out at the town council meeting on Monday night – then this happens.

"Banners were still up at 11pm but had gone by 6am the following day.

"For all posters to be taken down in Brigg and Scawby, and the hand painted wooden notices to be smashed – it seems more organised to me.

"I'm not going to stop fighting the plans."

As previously reported, Eco2 is seeking permission to construct a £83-million renewable energy plant, with turbine and boiler hall, storage barns, wood storage building and lagoon on the former Brigg sugar factory site at Scawby Brook.

Andrew Toft, commercial director of Eco2 Biomass, said: "Brigg Renewable Energy Plant is a strong project and Eco2 welcomes public scrutiny. We have nothing to do with the removal of any posters."

“Ha, ha, ha - how funny that the Anti Biomass campaigners are upset that someone has set up a campaign against them! It' s about time they realised we do want more jobs created in our area, we do want heating for our homes and we definitely need the electricity to power up our puters so we can read the ST on the internet and put our comments on for all to read! I hope the station gets built. Heaven knows, we'll need it if they keep building more and more houses in Brigg...”

“for someone to be investing 85m£ in this climate in our area we should be thankful as there will employment and investment into the economy for years to come.
people should wake up otherwise the lights will go and we will have shortages of power in the future.
oh btw if you want to spend 85 quid on a banner and leave it for someone to nick then put your money in a charity box and help someone out who needs it instead of fighting a power plant that we do need!”
