You might not know that they pressed ½ tonne of apples that
day and gave away the juice to about 500 people. The overwhelming response was
how good the juice tasted – far better than that bought commercially – and that
the process for making the juice looked good fun – and even fairly easy.
Well, The Apple of Your Isle group are bringing you the chance to
turn your own apples – and pears – into juice using their equipment. As well as
the fun of doing that, you get the added bonus of taking your own juice home!
They have planned 2 Apple Pressing Days this month. The
first is at 1 Battle Green, Epworth on Saturday 20th October, and
the second on the following Saturday – 27th – at the Methodist
Church Hall, Fieldside, Crowle. They each run from 10am to 4pm.
You will be able to press your fruit during one of the half
hour slots on these days at a cost of £5 for a half hour. To book your slot
please contact Peter Barnard on 873937 or via peter.barnard@me.com
Members of the group will be on hand at the Apple Pressing
Days to help and guide you and also to talk about the process for making and
storing apple juice. They will also happily talk about how to turn your juice
into cider. You will be able to buy apple produce and see apple recipes.
The group will also be in Epworth Market Place on the
morning of Saturday 13th October when you will be able to sample
some apple juice and book into one of the pressing day time slots.
Peter Barnard is
one of The Apple of Your Isle group and said
"This year has been
a patchy one for fruit, but if you have apples that you fancy turning into
juice then book yourself into one of the half hour slots. The process is an
easy one and is really enjoyable."
