A comeback was not on the cards though and United conceded a further three goals in the second half condemning them to a dismal exit from Championship football.

“I am certainly not sorry that we beat you yesterday, but I am sorry that you are relegated. You play good football and are not a dirty side. Hopefully you can return at first attempt because your quality of football is far too good to be played in a division that is renowned for kick and rush.
