ANDY Hughes has become Scunthorpe United’s fifth signing of the January transfer window.

The midfielder, who can also play at full-back, has joined on a free transfer from Leeds United, signing an 18 month contract with the option of a further year in the club's favour.

Manager Ian Baraclough will be hoping the 33-year-old former Reading player can add some experience to the Iron squad.

And with Josh Wright keen to move on from Glanford Park, Hughes, whose deal at Elland Road was due to expire in the summer, is likely to have been identified as a suitable replacement.

He has made 13 appearances for Leeds this season and has had spells at Norwich City, Notts County and Oldham Athletic.

“Ere 'Dave'...what do you call a dirty mud-rat, who lives in Scunthorpe, has no friends and no understanding of how football works?

Now up the wooden hill young man and dont be wetting your bed again, with nightmares of O'Connor sliding on his knees in front of your beleaguered (trampy) support as the Iron steam on to a.n.other derby victory.

PS the answer to the question? 'Names'

    UP THE IRON!”

“Think he will plug a much needed hole with his experience, a real grafter, murphy to coventry with McIndoe coming in as striker...watch this space....prefer Freddie Eastwood though”

Boyes has had his contract terminated though which is no a bad move.”

“Strange that Rob. Just been talking to three Leeds regulars who are all of the opinion that he will do a great job for the Iron.
They said he will never give you less than 100% and that is certainly what we need now.”

“Opposite of what I've heard Rob/Leeds and I know loads of Leeds fans who are OLYMPIAN MOANERS - they rate him as a solid utility player...I think he'll be a bit like Logan/Hinds were.

All we now is to see players signing in a suit, on the pitch ideally. It's not just at SUFC where slovenlyness is accepted...anyone see Glen Johnson and his team mates out in todays redtops? Deary me - I'd normally say 'these cats clearly haven't let their cash go to their wardrobes' but no doubt they have!

    Up the Iron!”

“I live in Leeds and am neither a happy clapper or moaner, but after speaking to quite a few Leeds fans about Andy Hughes, they are glad to see the back of him as they don't rate him (not even in league 1). Hopefully he'll fit in and prove the Leeds fans wrong.

Here's to hoping we find a decent striker.”
