THE first major rebuild of a Scunthorpe secondary school starts today.

Brumby Engineering College, in Cemetery Road, Scunthorpe, is the first site to be revamped as part of the ambitious £91-million Building Schools for the Future project.

Dr Tom Clark, principal at the school said: "We are already starting to see the beginning of what has been three years of preparation.

"All those talks and discussions and now we are starting to see action.

"It is a significant moment for us. It is great for our youngsters who have been given this wonderful opportunity and it is great for the town

"The new building for science and technology will really take our engineering to a whole new level."

Builders will be based at the school site for the next two years.

Coun Gosling, cabinet member for children's services at the council, said: "Building Schools for the Future is a massive £91-million investment for schools in North Lincolnshire and I'm really looking forward to getting involved and digging the first sod to mark the first stage of building work at Brumby Engineering College.

"This summer is set to be a really exciting time for BSF in North Lincolnshire."

Coun Gosling is hopeful work can also begin at John Leggott College where a £43-million revamp project is currently in limbo.
