MANAGER Ian Baraclough is hoping a return to the road will allow Scunthorpe United to show their footballing ability as they attempt to further boost their improving points tally.

On the way to a three-match unbeaten run at home, the Iron have had to dig in and show their metal on a Glanford Park pitch which does little to aid the style of play Baraclough says he is desperate for his side to adopt.

"We need to get a bit more quality on the ball and away from home we may get a chance to do that," said the United chief, whose side travel to Bristol City on Saturday and Portsmouth the following Tuesday.

"If we give the players the right sort of ammunition, they'll score goals.

"We got some decent goals against Sheffield United on Tuesday (in a 3-2 success), but it's about getting the balls into the right areas for long enough."

Baraclough named an unchanged starting line-up for the first time since October against the Blades, but has hinted he may switch things around at Ashton Gate.

The clash with the Robins is the fourth game in a gruelling run of 11 matches in 35 days, with the likes of Abdisalam Ibrahim and Eddie Nolan coming into contention.

"It's been a tough schedule and we maybe agreed to putting a game in that we shoudn't have done at this stage," he said of last week's 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

"We had some tired bodies in the dressing room on Tuesday and we need to get them refreshed in time to go again.

"One or two changes might have to be made, because everyone has to be bang at it.

"The substitutes came on and made an impact and that's how it's got to be."

“Hmmm - I think we lack a wide player but Bara will wait on Thompson returning, believe.

Togwell, Hughes, Wright, Duffy is very one dimensional but it is effective...stick to a winning side and carryon taking full advantage of a decent benct with Ibrahim coming on.

That said - we could have ZIDANE in CM on Saturday and we'd still get stuffed...damage limitation is the best bet cos we wont get anything more than a throw in at Ashton Gate.

    Up the Iron!”

“If it means getting points on a bad pitch so be it,didnt do too good on a good pitch. Also if the groundsman can repair the pitch he can have a go at my lawn. KEEP THE FAITH”

“Its nice to see the change in form and with the next two games away from Glanford Park will help the pitch out loads in the 28 years of watching the Iron play i don't think ive seen it so bad because if it was a animal the vet would offer to put it down, Lets hope that it can pick itself up just like the boys have UP THE IRON lets keep it going boys championship next season”

“Lets hope a couple of weeks without a home game and some merciful dry weather might turn the Glanford Park pitch back into a pitch and not an allotment. Pretty much guaranteed that there wouldn't be any decent passing in our last three games.

I appreciate before the start of Christmas Bara's team was a bunch of long-ball merchants. But considering how his team has improved with an influx of new signings, I'm more than willing to reserve judgement about our ability to get the ball down and pass, especially with Michael O'Connor to return shortly.”
