ROB Godfrey says Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions must bounce back from defeat at Workington by taking all three points from this evening's return meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The Scorpions lost 39-50 last night but know maximum points tonight (Sunday) will give them a good chance of reaching the play-off final.

Promoter Godfrey said is was going to be a "big, big day".

"If we can get three points we should be okay, although we still need the other results to go the way we expect them to,” he said.

"It’s been a challenging weekend.

“We had a disaster before we even started on Thursday when Josh (Auty) and Nick (Morris) were ruled out, but that turned into a positive on Friday when we took a point from Edinburgh.

“We didn’t get quite any points out of [Saturday night], but we didn’t suffer a big defeat, so our race points didn’t suffer too badly."

Number one Josh Auty will return for the Scorpions after missing the meeting at Edinburgh and the away clash at Workington.

With Nick Morris, David Howe and Thomas Jorgensen still out injured, the Sheffield pair of Richard Hall and Hugh Skidmore will ride as guests.

Qualification for the final could yet come down to points difference.

Scorpions' Gary Irving said the team had battled for every point at Workington.

He said: “It was a hard night all around. Workington is always a hard place to come, and tonight we came with three guests. But everyone battled away to get as many points as we can.

“Points difference could be what decides the table that we’re in, so we had to battle for every single point.

“On Sunday, we want all three league points, and as big a score as we can.”

Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions to face Workington tonight at the Eddie Wright Raceway (6pm): 1. Josh Auty, 2. Hugh Skidmore (guest), 3. Richard Hall (guest), 4. Ashley Birks, 5. Nick Morris R/R, 6. Michael Palm Toft, 7. Gary Irving.
