A spokesman for The AA, said: "The thing about driving in snow in the UK is drivers take a little longer to get into their winter driving mindset.
"They their speed and allow for more distance between them and the car in front.
"There is that first one to three hours when we are mostly looking to see accidents, because drivers are getting used to the snow.
"We want them to get into this frame of mind quicker.
"It just takes one accident to block a road and this just aggravates the situation with the snow."
The AA is also urging drivers to check their routes are clear before setting off and deciding whether the journey is neccesary.
A spokesman for The AA said: "Drivers need to check the road ahead before they leave.
"Once you get off the main roads, it becomes a different situation for drivers."

“Before some of you start I know times move on, however when I was a lad not that long ago you did not see these motoring organisations been called out for such stupid reasons such as flat batteries or flat tyres. Part of the reason some would say is more women drivers and some young men drivers with no idea of basic car maintenance and pre-planning for winter / summer driving. Also another reason for this is that cars have got more complicated electronics and in some cases no proper spare tyre, this is all done to force the general public into having breakdown cover and been forced to go to repairers for minor faults and new tyres.”

“@ Mozart,
The alternator/charging system is designed to charge the battery on all cars with everything switched on,however this is with a decent run. It's all the short runs/start/stop that cause the problem because the engine isn't running long enough to totally re-charge the battery.
I will agree with you about battery maintenance though as nowadays a run of the mill battery will only last 12 months if your lucky.
A good investment is a cheap solar powered trickle charger(about £15) that's permanently connected to keep the battery topped up as this does the same job as a battery conditioner at a fraction of the cost +It's fit and forget.”

“The problem these days is that SOME drivers run around in cars that havn't got the charging capacity or battery to cope with the headlamps being on all the time when driving (even bright days) plus windscreen heaters, car heaters etc. They seem to think that their car battery has infinite capacity (if they know what that is!).Also many can afford newish cars by buying on the never never but can't afford a new battery on the credit card never never! Good job many of these fools weren't around when cars had a DC generator rather than an alternator!”

“IT'S RUDDY WINTER - GET A GRIP - IF DRIVERS CAN'T COPE WITH A SMATTERING OF SNOW THEY SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD”
