BUILDING work on Messingham Primary School's £2.2-million merger looks set to be given a start date next week - as North Lincolnshire Council finalises its mobile classroom replacement programme.

Messingham Junior School will join the site of Messingham Infant School from September 2011 after 20-year-old plans were finally given the go ahead in December.

The work will see the school's controversial temporary classroom torn down - as North Lincolnshire Council embarks on its £1-million improvement programme to replace the region's mobile buildings.

Messingham Primary School headteacher Lynda Cavanagh is confident of finalising a date on Monday, when school representatives will meet with North Lincolnshire Council.

She said: "We're very close to having the start date finalised and we are hopeful a meeting with the relevant parties will be able us to announce a date."

The council's Primary Steering Group will meet next week to outline a renovation schedule, which will be decided according to the urgency of each school's needs.

As previously reported Scawby Primary School will be the first to have their mobile classroom replaced due to the state of the temporary accommodation.

Tony Gosling, cabinet member for Children's Services, said: "A full timetable will be drawn up in the coming weeks and we are pleased to be in a position to deliver these improvements for the children of North Lincolnshire."
