Big turn-out for captain's drive-in at Elsham Golf Club

There was a full field of 108 competitors for Elsham's Captain's Drive-in.

An Am/Am Stableford was played with two scores to count on each hole and three on the par threes.

Ben Lowery, Paul Lowery, Carol and Mike Pigdon came first with 88 points. Second went to Emma Rooke, Dawn Simpson, Frank Morris and Dave Farren (88) and B Portess, K Turner, M Holham and Tony Quirke (86) came third.

In fourth was the team of captain David Spence, lady captain Margaret Hartley, professional Stuart Brewer and deputy head greenkeeper Chris Goodall (85).

Jenny Burt was nearest the lady captain's drive and Mark Hobbins nearest to the captain's drive.

Chris Halmshaw, B Portess, John Peach, P Hopton, Ben Lowery, Joe Davidson, Tony Hiles, Ann Foster, Julian Hair and Tim Hartley all managed twos.

The ladies played a Stableford which was won off full handicap by Emma Rooke with 35 points. Second place went to Marie Tansey with 34.

Off 7/8 handicap, Gill Farren (31) was the winner and Angela Powell (29) runner-up.

Over 100 ladies from 25 different clubs took part in an open Am/Am. The winning Boston team was the last team out and notched 87 points.

A team from Hessle, Brough and Huddersfield (84) came second; a Kenwick Park quartet (83) third and a Lincoln and Canwick (80) team fourth.

A home team of Jacqui Boswell, Carol Croft, Carol Pigdon and Patsy Davies (80) finished fifth.

A nine-hole Stableford was played, with the qualifier off full handicap and non-qualifier off 7/8 handicap.

In the qualifier, Su Waldron (38 points) was first and Janet Godfrey (34) second.

Jennifer Hedley won the non-qualifier with 35 points. Gill Farren (34) was second and Sandra Richards (30) third.

In the Strange Trophy, two medal rounds were played over four days with Janet Westray first and Angela Powell second.

Division One of the October Medal saw Polly Brettle come first with 88-20=68, ahead of Marie Tansy (91-18=73) and Barbara Barton (93-19=74).

In Division Two, Shirley Farley won with 102-26=76. Second was Melanie Adcock (118-36=82) and third Shirley Whitehand (109-27=82).

The ladies held their AGM and Margaret Hartley took over from Judy Hewitt as lady captain with her new vice-captain, Pat Ecuyer.

The AGM was preceded by the ladies' presentation, trophy winners were: Centenary Trophy, Shirley Farley and Su Waldron; Hauxwell Trophy, Jenny Burt; Nowell Trophy, Emma Rooke; Lowish Trophy, Debbie Atkin; Wicks Trophy, Emma Rooke; Strange Trophy, Janet Westray; Parry Cup, Patsy Davies; Jackson Trophy, Barbara Barton and Carol Pigdon; Smith Cup, Shirley Farley; Grannies Trophy, Gillian Leaning; Kemp Trophy, Debbie Atkin; Handicap Trophy, Allyson Golland; Phoenix Trophy, Louise Armitage; Hair Trophy, Jacqui Boswell; Championship Tarbet Trophy, Emma Rooke and Past Lady Captain – Janet Westray.

The seniors lost at home against Kirkella, 4-5.

In the Winter Stableford, Grant Richards was first with 38 points (18 on the last nine).

Brian Parker was second with 38 points (17 on the last nine), Steve Pearce was third and David Hewitt fourth.

There were five twos, including David Blewitt on the first – an eagle on the par four.
