BLAME the players and not Scunthorpe United manager Ian Baraclough for the Iron's poor run of form.

That's the view of United midfielder Andy Hughes who speaks in the same vein as his on-pitch playing style – with no-nonsense.

When it came to discussing Scunthorpe's failings this season, he pulled no punches.

United have claimed just one victory in their last 14 matches, a run of form which they will look to end when Nottingham Forest travel to Glanford Park for tonight's Championship encounter.

Hughes pointed to individual errors, in such abundance that have undermined what started as a season of promise but what has now turned into a scrap for survival.

"The last few games, individual errors have let the players and the manager down," said the former Leeds United man.

"We go over the white line and we are making silly mistakes.

"The players need to take responsibility for that.

"There were a heck of a lot of mistakes against Hull City and mistakes at Middlesbrough too.

"But there weren't too many at Cardiff City.

"We are getting the shape right.

"The manager is getting his ideas over about what he wants."

“Not going to defend the coaches completely because I do think there are issues here. Would say that it is difficult for a goalkeeper to know when to come for a ball when his back line keeps changing. Some defenders head everything in the 6 yd box whereas others expect their goalkeeper to get it and unfortunately we are in a period of time when the keeper is not allowed to take the ball and everything in front of him.”

“Andy, you are correct when you say that individual errors are costing us many points, and at Middles'bro and against Hull City these were in evidence.

I do not know why none of the club coaches cannot spot why our goal keepers do not appear to have a clue on when to and when not to leave their goal line, these are our most glowing errors, and the team have been in this situation for most of the season,

Cutting out crosses does not seem to be part of our keepers job any longer, and once again on Saturday at Cardiff, Josh was standing only about four feet away from the ball when it was lobbed into the goal area, he could have easily have punched the ball, and probably have even caught it, but what does he do, "JUST ADMIRE THE BALL AND STAY ROOTED TOM HIS LINE" while the Cardiff guys puts the ball into the net. Joe is exactly the same, many crosses come into his area and whilst just standing there with arms spread, an apponant puts the ball into the net, whatt the hell is the goalkeeping coach doing ??????????? there is more to life and coaching than swinging a few balls into the area before each game, please watch a copy of our matches, and assess how many of the goals against are the result of poor goalkeeping, you will probably find that these add up to 40% or more.

COME ON LADS LETS MAKE THE MOST OF THESE THREE HOME GAMES.”

“Also we have a chairman who does not feel it worth while to bring in more fans to pay for such players who can play hoofball.”

“Can't but admire the cut of this fella's jib - just the attitude we need. One thing though (and is this isn't intended in a snipey way, but as a genuine question) - the tactic of playing long aimless balls to strikers who can't play that way is attributable to our downfall, so who's responsible for the shift to hoofball? Presumably it's come from the management, or has it? Are the players not confident enough to pass anymore?”

“I am sure Ipswich players were saying the same about Keane. Look what has happened there with a new manager and the same squad”
