Bottesford school badminton squad remains unbeaten

NORTH Lincolnshire teams enjoyed success at the Level 3 Sainsbury's Humber School Games Primary School Timed Badminton Finals.

The four North Lincolnshire qualifiers of the Key Stage 2 tournament held back in November went forward to compete with the winners of North East Lincolnshire, Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire areas in the Humber School Games Final held at Hull Badminton Centre.

    Scawby Academy came thid in the Level 3 Sainsbury's Humber School Games badminton finals

Sixteen teams competed in the finals, with five players in each team playing to a new, exciting Badminton England-designed format of timed singles on a full court with cumulative scoring.

North Lincolnshire teams were victorious, with Bottesford Junior School, who won the North Lincolnshire event two months ago, remaining unbeaten.

They beat Wootton St Andrew's Church of England Primary School in the final by 40 points to nine.

Scawby Academy just managed to beat Brigg Primary School 26-24 in the third and fourth place play-off.

For all the North Lincolnshire qualifiers to finish in the top four of the tournament was an amazing achievement.

With children gaining this competitive experience and success, badminton coach Richard Traviss commented on how inspirational this is for the future of the sport in the area.

This will be a hard act to follow next year but one sure to inspire young badminton players of the future.
