Boxing lessons for schoolchildren
YOUNGSTERS at Brigg's Sir John Nelthorpe School have been taking part in boxing lessons to improve discipline and keep fit.
Around 50 year eight pupils have tried the sport in PE lessons since the start of the current school term.
The weekly sessions are led by head coach at Brigg Amateur Boxing Club, Jimmy Quinn, 43.
He said: "It is good for discipline and there are some victims of bullying who I work with.
"It is a confidence boost for some kids and they love it."
Mr Quinn has been coaching in schools since last year and he said he had identified plenty of potentially good boxers during the lessons.
He said one of the aims of the school sessions was to get more young people interested in boxing and involved in the sport.
"The aim is to try and get these kids disciplined and get them into the club at night time, so it has a knock-on effect," he said.
The boxing sessions are on a non-contact basis and concentrate on areas of the sport such as technique and fitness.
The school's head of PE, Richard Rivron, said there were health benefits from the lessons.
He said: "What the kids would normally have been doing is fitness training and circuit work in the gym.
"The exercise Jim has got them doing are useful and there is also the technical side as well."

“I think it's brilliant, I see the kids practising every morning on their way to school.”
