RETAIL: A Hull home improvement firm said it is bucking the industry trend after seeing sales for the first half of January peak at their highest in eight years.

EYG Home Improvements said sales for the first week of January, when they had a sale on windows, doors and conservatories, were up ten per cent on the same period last year.

It added that last week's sales figures were "the highest they've been in several years", with the company's Scarborough branch taken in excess of £100,000 last week alone.

Joint managing director Nick Ward said: "The industry has suffered right across the country in the past few years, with the knock-on effect from the construction industry suffering in the recession.

"However, we have been ecstatic with the sales figures for the first fortnight of this month.

"They've beyond exceeded our expectations, we haven't seen a single week's sales figures this high for perhaps eight years.

"A large proportion has come from conservatories, so people are clearly thinking ahead to spring and summer. It's a fantastic start to the year, and shows that, in Yorkshire, we are still spending money and investing in our homes."

MARKETING: A specialist cleaning system and accessories provider, has announced the appointment of Hull-based Lee Creative Marketing as its new retained marketing agency.

QJS specialises in the supply of washdown equipment, cleaning systems and accessories to the food and beverage manufacturing industries.

The Lincoln company has now committed to a 12 month contract in view of its current expansion plans.

Nadia Hemmings, marketing account director at Lee Creative, said: "We are very excited to begin work on this project as QJS are a client which values data and this has opened up a world of opportunities.

"Our activity will centre around the database, which has been carefully built over the past few years to produce a highly targeted series of campaigns.

"It's great to be recognised for the work we've done and to be given the opportunity to build on it."
