A MAJOR North Lincolnshire musical event has been cancelled for next year, after committee volunteers found they were too busy to carry out all the preparations and planning.

The Brigg Fiddle Fest has become an established part of the North Lincolnshire music calendar over the past 12 years.

But, a decision has been made to pull the plug on next year's event.

Organiser Carol Dawson said: "We are just taking a year out. We are a small committee and we always have been and we do it voluntarily."

And, she said, one of the committee members died two years ago and all of the remaining volunteers were too busy to dedicate the time necessary to run next year's event.

Mrs Dawson, a teacher, said: "I have been on a course in London as well as working full-time.

"We have taken next year off to give us more time to plan.

"We start planning the following year's event the month after the last one. It's almost a whole year long, the planning process."

The decision to cancel the event, which has been staged for the past 12 years, has been particularly hard for all the committee members.

"It was a very big decision – it wasn't taken lightly. We really have struggled making it to be honest.

"It's not something we have we grown from nothing. We are all passionate about it. It's something we want to keep going, but there are only 24 hours in the day and that is the difficulty really," Mrs Dawson said.
