The official reopening was attended by Andrew Percy, the Brigg and Goole MP; the Town Mayor and Mayoress of Brigg, Councillor Carl Sherwood and Louise Mikkonen; Wrawby Parish Council chairman Councillor Ian Smith; and Councillor Rob Waltham, a member of the cabinet at North Lincolnshire Council.
The VIP visitors were given a guided tour of the refurbished premises which offers a fine range of meals, drinks and accommodation.
A new covered construction to the rear of the inn, with log fire, offers a spacious area to relax and have a cigarette or two, if you are a smoker.
It is of open construction and will really come into its own during the warmer months of the year.
Upstairs in the main building, tastefully furnished en suite bedrooms are on offer.
Downstairs there is a games room and a bar area, with real ale on tap.
The inn is situated alongside the main A18 through the village.

“The Dolphin, Althorpe I wish you all the luck in the world trying to get the speed limit reduced to 40 mph past your pub because you'll need it. Percy always makes all the right sounds but will do nothing, knowing him he's just trying to get some free food, you don't get that size looking at it do you. In a few months time i'm sure you'll be told it's going to cost too much so it can't be done. If you think it's bad now wait until the silly season starts around April and you have lard heads on motorbikes doing 100 mph past your pub but if it's any consolation come July most of them have fallen off and it does get better. A couple of years back i was sitting having a steak in your pub when a speeding car lost control and went through the fence of one of the house's opposite, the food was excellent as always that night and the entertainment was pretty good too.”

“Offence taken on behalf of the villagers of Althorpe and those that frequent the pub, englander61!
Agree with Zero tolerance for drink driving, but your generalisation is a tad harsh and it is the ones pulling into the pub for food that complain. I bring the issue back to drop the speed limit down to 40mph in Althorpe and make it a safer place for all that live in the area and pull in AND out of the pub.....much like Wrawby with it's 2 pubs on the main road and enforcement of the limit in place. Safer community for Wrawby and Althorpe. Here! Here!”

“The Dolphin, Althorpe. It looks like a case of protecting drunks again ,Slower reactions pulling out into traffic , zero tolerance on drink driving , Drunken drivers make mistakes .”

“Drumming up business and safety are two separate issues and winding up? really? It should be perceived as a valid concern for the community the pub shares. From the complaints we receive at the pub as people indicate and slow to turn in and risk getting rammed into from behind at 60mph, there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. The upsetting part is that something will only be done when there is a fatality at our doorstep. We really don't want a front row seat to that scenario or to be the first in line to say 'told you so' and 'why didn't you listen'.
Just want a 40mph as the need is as justified as in Wrawby and other local villages serviced by a main road. There is a bus stop outside The Dolphin that the villagers have to cross the road to get to with much trepidation...perhaps 'run' across the road to get to is a more realistic description.”

“The dolphin,
So it's you winding the locals up about it needing to be a 40 mph limit. The cars will still just drive past just might be a bit slower. Can't see how a drop in the limit will boost your trade.
Good luck though.”

“Congratulations to Mr Godfrey and his team. Excellent pub with good beer and a really excellent value and quality pub menu. Besides it's got to be worth a call just to check out there "smoking shelter"!! Even non smokers will be amazed and enticed back to it come the warmer months!!”

“Congratulations from a fellow village pub on the A18 in Althorpe.
Hope it takes off especially if the food is excellent and the welcome is warm. Sadly we are not lucky enough to already be in a 40mph zone unlike yourselves but perhaps soon we too will share all your attributes and keep our little villages thriving through the cold winter with good food in their bellies and a cold drink in their hands.”
