Brigg Town FC exit FA Trophy at Hawthorns against Ramsbottom United
Brigg Town FC lost 1-0 at home to Ramsbottom United in the FA Trophy preliminary round on Saturday.
After being well beaten three weeks ago at Ramsbottom in the FA Cup, Brigg anticipated a difficult game against the same opponents in the FA Trophy, WRITES BOB TAYLOR.

Brigg Town FC are now out of the FA Trophy and the FA Cup
The game was disappointing with neither side able to mount any serious threat in the goalmouths and the single goal deciding the game came direct from a left wing corner kick 10 minutes after half time.
Brigg began by forcing a corner kick on the left wing but when this was played into the goal area, visiting goalkeeper Elliot Threkeld was fouled on his line. Then a free kick from Anthony Bowsley into the penalty area was headed clear. When the visitors began to settle, they looked dangerous down both wings and Chas Fisher had to head clear from a right wing cross to concede a corner kick.

Brigg had the ball in the back of the Ramsbottom goal netting after 10 minutes but Adam Lee's effort was disallowed because of an offside decision.
At the other end, Philip Dean also went close but his shot went just wide of the upright post.
The biggest threat for Brigg came from Andrew Dawson getting forward to use his height to advantage on free kicks aimed for him in the area. Brigg defenders generally dealt well with these, although one knocked down to Mark Ayres in front of goal gave him the best chance of the first half to open the scoring.
Liam Davis looked dangerous in possession but was closely marked. He set up an opportunity for Anthony Bowsley who toe-poked a shot over the crossbar and then Stuart Preston curled another shot over the goal.
Brigg were slow starting in the second half and lost the initiative in the first ten minutes of the re-start.
After Miles Fenty tipped a stinging shot over the bar from Gary Stopforth, the visitors scored the important first goal after fifty-four minutes from a left wing corner kick played by GARY STOPFORTH straight into the net.
Brigg battled for an equalising goal but the Ramsbottom defenders stood firm and in control.
Greg Archer went close from a left wing cross and Liam Davis saw two attempts go narrowly past the post but Elliot Threkeld's goal was never seriously threatened and the visitors progressed to the next round.
Brigg travel to play at King's Lynn tomorrow (Tuesday evening) and then have a home match against Halesowen Town on Saturday afternoon in the Evo-Stik League Division One South.
