Brigg Town FC were without Greg Archer and Ryan Paczkowski for their away game at league leaders Coalville Town - a firm test made even more difficult when the Zebras' Chas Fisher was dismissed for a second caution inside the first half hour, WRITES BOB TAYLOR.

The game started favourably for Brigg with a goal scored after just two minutes of play.

From the left wing, the ball was played across the penalty area for Paul Grimes and Liam Davis to strike a shot against the upright but the ball rebounded into the path of DANNY BUTTLE who steered it into the back of the net.

Callum Woodward looked an early threat for the home side and his early free kick was cleared out to Ryan Robbins, who slipped in the penalty area.

Ryan Robbins continued to tumble at the slightest touch and Chas Fisher was unlucky to receive the first caution against him, especially compared with some of the early tackles which went un-punished.

Coalville began to get the ball forward quickly and another free kick was deflected over the crossbar for a corner kick.

The equalising goal came after eleven minutes when the ball broke loose from a scramble for CALLUM WOODARD to curl a low shot into the corner of the net through the crowded area.

Ryan Robbins had a good chance to put the home team ahead but his shot went past the upright and then Callum Woodward’s effort was well saved by Miles Fenty.

Brigg’s task was made more testing after they were reduced to ten men on the half hour after Chas Fisher was shown a second yellow card for a heavy tackle close to the touchline.

Brigg re-organised with Liam Dickens dropping deeper from mid-field to cover in central defence and he played well in that role.

Before half time, a long forward ball was headed back by Bruno Holden for Liam Davis to strike a shot narrowly by the top angle of the goal.

At the other end, Miles Fenty saved a long range shot from Liam Kay and Ryan Robbins went close after being set up by Lewis Dodd.

Five minutes after the break, Coalville took the lead after Josh Davis lost the ball in a central midfield area and then the Brigg defenders made a mess of attempting to clear it before KRIS NURSE took possession to send a firm shot into the top of the net.

Miles Fenty turned another long range shot over the crossbar as the home team looked comfortable with their lead and defended it well but Brigg battled on and continued to create openings until the final whistle.

Brigg Town: Fenty, Ashton, Dudley, Davis, Hellewell, Fisher, Davies, Dickens, Holden, Grimes, Buttle; subs - Downey, Broughton, Gee, James Windle (for Buttle), Zand.

Attendance: 120.

There are two home games for Brigg this week - the first against Loughborough Dynamo on Tuesday evening (March 12) followed by Gresley FC visiting the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon (March 16).
