HOLY FIRE – FOALS (Warner Brothers) – The third album from the Oxford punk-dance quintet starts at a canter and finishes at a gallop and is well worthy of its smash hit success. Lead singer and writer Yannis Phillippakis, 26, pulls no punches with his lyrics and The Foals are super-tight musically. Expect the stand-out track Stepson to become a rock anthem. The Foals are a clear winner by a length – 10/10.
I BELONG TO YOU” – EMILLA MITIKU (Warner Brothers) - Lovers of classic jazz and soul will be first in queue to buy this cleverly-mastered album. It’s more than a decade since Emilia ruled the globe with Big Big World and this 14-track collection proves she just gets better and better. Melody and harmony are to the front in songs like Lost Inside and Winter Beach – 8/10.

LOST IN YOU – PETULA CLARK (Sony Music) – Amazing to think Petula Clark started her recording career more 60 years ago and has scored only two number one hits in the 1960s. On her new album the evergreen Miss Clark does justice to covers of John Lennon’s Imagine, Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy and Elvis Presley’s Love Me Tender. As an added bonus there is a reworking of her 1964 world-wide hit Downtown which never loses its appeal – 8/10.
THE GOLDEN AGE OF SONG – JOOLS HOLLAND (Rhino Music) – The first collaboration since 2007 from JH and his rhythm and blues orchestra and it has gold stamped right through it. Jools has a real knack of breathing new life into age-old standards and the line-up on this collaboration is five-star. Tom Jones sings I’ll Sail My Ship Alove, Paul Weller’s September In The Rain and Rumer’s Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate-The Positive add to the mass appeal. Paul Weller also duets with the late Amy Winehouse for a stand-out version of Don’t Go to Strangers – 10/10.
