Campaign to save steel as '2,000 jobs to go'
SCUNTHORPE'S biggest steel union Community today launched a campaign to safeguard UK steel-making amid fears Corus was about to axe a further 2,000 jobs.
The figure includes around 500 at the plant in Scunthorpe.

500 jobs could be axed at the Corus plant in Scunthorpe
Community general secretary Michael Leahy told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "We have real concerns for the integrity of the British steel industry.
"We fear its further erosion could fundamentally undermine UK manufacturing.
"The Government must take action before it's too late.
"Community union will be doing all it can in the coming days and weeks to minimise the job losses, oppose hard redundancies and fight for the future of British steel-making."

“This union used to be called the ISTC which was a reall union.
They are now only a self preservation society who look for new members anywhere they can find them eg jjb sports.
Until we as STEELWORKERS form are own STEELWORKERS union and look after the interest of STEELWORKERS we shall never be represented.
Time we formed a proper STEELWORKERS union for STEELWORKERS.
It's up to you now lads either you change or DIE”

“Perhaps Stalin Brown might want to employ those that get made redundant as Civil Servants. After all they already have the rest of the country working for the Stalin and Emperor Mandelson dictatorship.”

“It wont bother to many MPs as many of them already have 3 or 4 other jobs acting as Company directors, or Company consultants or Company advisors. So they wont have time to save a few Steel workers jobs, will they. No wonder the country is a mess when the very people we vote in are more interested in their other little financial gold mines.”
