Captain Cameron to ride in David Howe Testimonial in Scunthorpe
Eastbourne speedway captain Cameron Woodward is pleased to be added to the field for the David Howe Testimonial at Scunthorpe on Sunday, March 24.
Cameron explained it was through non-speedway events that he became more friendly with the Scunthorpe star.
“I’ve raced against David for a fair few years but I hadn’t really known him till I started doing grasstrack and longtrack. Since then we’ve doubled up a few times," he said.
“It’s probably three years now that I’ve known him well. The injuries he had last year were horrible, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
“I’ve only ridden Scunthorpe once, it was after Dan Giffard’s Testimonial, I don’t know how many years ago that was, but it seemed a pretty cool place – we need more tracks like that.
“I’ll be in the World Longtrack GPs again this year with David, 6th last year and hopefully keep progressing with the rookie year out of the way.”
Cameron’s schedule for the season isn’t as busy as he’d like it to be. “I’m missing out on Poland this year, I have signed a free contract but I don’t actually have a ride, so I’m pretty disappointed about that. The only thing I can do is use it as an opportunity to do more grass and longtrack.”
Nevertheless he is full of optimism for the prospects of the Eagles. “I am quite keen on what we have at Eastbourne this year. We’ve got a way stronger team than last year. I’m team captain again, it’s easy with the guys we’ve got, there’s no superstars.”
