THE captain of Ashby Decoy Golf Club is leaving the green and taking to the sky in order to raise thousands of pounds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Paul Holloway, 59, of Scunthorpe, will leap out of a plane at a staggering 15,000ft in aid of a charity he holds very close to his heart.

Paul's mother Peggey Holloway was diagnosed with motor neurone disease aged 55.

When she died two years later Paul was inspired to raise money and also awareness of the debilitating disease.

"The disease took my mother 25 years ago," he said.

"When she was diagnosed we knew nothing about the horrible debilitating disease, which to this today still does not have a cure.

"It was such a shock to the family – we had never heard anything about it before."

Paul said it is extremely hard for family member to watch a loved one who is suffering with the disease.

He said: "The condition can affect people for a number of years.

"It affects the muscles of the body but the brain remains working as normal which is very frustrating for the person with the illness.

"For family members the worse thing is feeling so useless."

The skydive will take place at Hibaldstow airfield on Friday, July 31
