CONTROVERSY: The Great British Circus, which has been criticised for featuring live animal acts, including elephants.
North Lincolnshire Green Party spokeswoman Jan Clark said: "It sends out a very negative view of the town to a lot of people. And I'm very concerned about the animals' welfare. It's barbaric."
Jeff Link, communications manager for the circus, said the animals were all well-treated.
He said: "We don't think the people in Scunthorpe should be bullied. They can come along and make up their own minds.
"People are going to vote with their feet."
