College celebrates record results as 98% of students sail through their A-levels
A STELLAR performance by talented John Leggott College students has seen this year's A-level pass rates reach 98 per cent.
The figure is a 0.5 per cent boost from last year and means the college has regained the record rate first reached in 2008.

In addition, 72 per cent of pupils managed to achieve grades between an A* and a C, up from 68 per cent last year.
Among those who have triumphed in their exams are a pupil who gained five A* grades and ten who were awarded four A* results.
Acting principal of the college Ian Yems praised pupils, saying: "I am very pleased with the A-level results.
"With 2,730 A-level exam entries in 2010, this represents the wide range of courses available at the college.
"I am equally pleased by the performance of the 230 students taking BTEC courses, where there was a 100 per cent pass rate with 60 per cent of ICT and sport performance students achieving the highest possible grades."
Mr Yems said more than 30 pupils scooped four A grades each, 30 separate courses reported a 100 per cent pass rate and, throughout the college, 178 A* grades were given out.
This is the first year the new top performance grade has been available, which means this year's learners have set the bar high for those who will follow in their footsteps.
The college saw success in maths and sciences, with A or B grades obtained by 79 per cent of electronics students, 65 per cent of physics students, 60 per cent of mathematics students, 83 per cent of further mathematics students, 46 per cent of biology students and 61 per cent of chemistry students.
A total of 72 per cent of economics students and more than half the history, business, government and politics students also gained an A or B as did 71 per cent who took performing arts, 43 per cent in music, 67 per cent in dance and 58 per cent in graphics.
More than 600 of the students will be progressing on to higher education, while others will take jobs locally.
Nic Dakin, executive principal and MP for Scunthorpe, added: "My congratulations to students and staff for all their hard work and effort this academic year.
"My best wishes to students who will be progressing onto higher education and professional training after the summer break."

“RON and Contax - that is grossly unfair to many who worked hard and cynical to the point of being downright nasty. 'Employers are always saying'?? - where ? Who? How many employers do you know personally?
Yes there are plenty of teens with poor life skills and yes, kids don't play with electronics and build radios in their spare time as my generation did, but you can't get away with insulting the whole system. Some subjects are are a waste of time and some with degrees are still idiots, but if our education system is so terrible how come we still have many of the best engineers in the world, Brits. are heading up the automotive industry around the world and we and are second in aerospace only to the USA? I do get annoyed at some of the daft things kids learn in school and some of the essentials they don't, but these are sentiments felt by every successive generation and the world still keeps turning.”

“If 98% passed and are so brainy how come employers are always saying most are unemployable and uni's are having to coach entrants as they are not good enough. They are only taught the relevant parts to pass the exam in any subject which is no use in real life situations. Lets go back 50 years in education where they had the 11+ and those who passed had chance to go to grammer school, the bainiest then had a chance to uni and others could go to loacl techical college on day release and evenings, why do we need a degree in some botched up suject to be a waitress/waiter and such jobs, all that is needed is common sense.”

“Well that's Nic Dakin last bit of "by association" glory he can get from John Leggott, now maybe he will start to earn so as a politician - but there will be many who won't hold their breath on it I will wager.”

“It's YAWN time again and the Kellog's Cornflake packet tops are proving their worth yet again!! If they all managed to pass a degree course - which any fool can these days it is definitly not a guarantee because ALL employers know how easy it is to get one.”

“Why are other people having to wait until next week for their results? They should all come out together.”
