AN appeal against the refusal of the Flixborough Grange wind farm has been cancelled at the last minute by the Planning Inspectorate.

An inspector was due to hear an appeal against the rejection by North Lincolnshire Council for a seven turbine plan for Flixborough Grange on Tuesday.

But the planning inspectorate has said the matter now needs to go to a full public inquiry because of complicated issues and the number of people who were likely to come along. No date has been set.

The appeal relates to the first application made by developer Ridgewind and not the second one thrown out by the planning committee of the council in February.

All sides have said they have been left confused by the decision, which is likely to lead to substantial delays and potentially high costs.

Campaign group Burton Against Turbines (BATs) have leafleted people living near the proposed site asking them to go to the Kingsway centre, Scunthorpe, and are keen to get out the cancellation information.

Spokesman Kev Gray said: "We cannot understand what is going on or how it could benefit anyone by going to a full public inquiry.

"It is just going to take much longer and cost more money."

Ridgewind director Nigel Goodhew said: "We are confused at the decision which has been made literally at the last minute."

“'Nimby' is that all the pro-wind lobby can say...
Every single Action group throughout the UK is made up of normal every day people who carefully consider all the pro's and con's issued from the Wind Energy Industry and surprisingly come broadly to the same conclusion.
We collectly do express our concerns over global warming, we dearly want to see a constructive and planned strategy that potentially could give new jobs and a future to many 1,000 s of people in the UK if the wasted money these inefficient turbines suck up on false promises is diverted to real new renewable technology.
In Denmark they have finally woke up to the fact that large scale wind farms promoted by the BWEA are a massive white elephant.
Yes Paul get angry now because you will be even more appalled when the real truth is exposed, which in time it will be...”

    “Paul
So we should let everyone build whatever they want, wherever they want should we?
No question as to whether it is appropriate or not.
You will note that all was well and due to be heard on Tuesday, No one, not BAT's, the developer nor the council requested this change.
Blame the Planning Inspectorate if you must, not BAT's”

“Well done BAT's you've just cost the council another £100,000 or so and where will the money come from. Increasing my council tax thats where. Its hard enough at the minute without NIMBY's who don't want the wonderful country piles effected by anything let alone something which will help to protect the environment my kids have to grow up in.

You never change, when the Chicken manure power station was planned Burton and Flixborough you lot were predicting the end of the world, What happened nothing, no one bothers with it.

Lets see you put your money where you mouth is and put your hands in your pockets to pay for this enquiry.

I am sick of being expected to pay my little and hard earned money to pay for selfish ill informed nimbys.”

“So it now appears that Ridgewind want to give the council a good kicking by more than likely calling in professional experts and lawyers to challenge and dispute its refusal of 2 applications and throw significant appeal costs at the authority.

Roll on the election, a new Government and the withdrawal of the renewable subsidy payouts to these developers from the empty public purse!!”
