A CONTRACTOR who was crushed to death near the Scunthorpe Corus steel mill at the weekend has been named as Barry Shaw.

The 53-year-old lorry driver, of Top Road, South Killingholme died at the scene following an incident shortly before 3.30pm on Saturday, August 28.

He became trapped between a lorry tractor unit and a trailer on the Rod Mill lorry park.

Nobody else was involved in the incident.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and investigations are continuing.

The fatality is the second death on the Scunthorpe site in the past four months.

Saturday's tragedy comes just four months after Thomas Standerline was crushed to death as he was working on a crane in the continuous casting plant on April 23.

Experts from the Health and Safety Executive are continuing their probe into the cause of the 26-year-old's death.
