Corus: More contractors' jobs go
ENERGY savings said to run into millions of pounds have already been made by thousands of steelworkers in Scunthorpe but more contractors jobs are going.
Around 20 contractors employed by the Brigg-based firm of Apollo 200 Recruitment have been given the axe.

Keith Norris, Apollo's managing director, said: "It is unfortunate, particularly at this time of the year, but the matter was out of our hands. We are trying to find the men affected alternative jobs as they are proven committed workers."
Works spokesman Rob Simpson said the amount of overtime working and extended holidays at Christmas for the 4,500 permanent labourers was still under review as part of the cost-cutting.
But he revealed there had been significant savings in electricity costs following an appeal to employees and contractors.
Mr Simpson estimated the savings to-date following a 60 per cent hike in electricity charges amounted to 15 per cent of the annual bill.

“johnny corus what do you mean leave it to the officials you don't mean the Community ( look after themselves) Union. If your waiting for them to help members forget it they will do what ever management want them to.”

“Same comments nearly everytime the Telegraph gets the info from somewhere. Corus workers , we need to leave the comments to the officials and not get involved in the petty small minded comments by others who have obviously been jealous of our past security.. As a community we need to support each other and keep spirits up !!!”

“The company I work for, suggested where possible that their office staff could work from home, this was 12 months ago; when the credit cruch crisis first came to light, the bosses say the savings have been quite measurable. If required a member of staff could be in the office within 15 mins from a phone call, Im astounded that Corus have taken so long to react to the situation, its been in the mainstream media for that long.”

“Grim reaper, you are entirely true when you say it doesn't look good for anyone. This isn't going to be a recession it will turn into a full blown depression. The governments prediction of 3m people out of work by this time next year are a little optimistic, expect a minimum of 5m out of work. Expect this country to go bankrupt within 5 years and for us all to be queing up for food ration tickets.”
