Costa and Subway planning fresh Scunthorpe outlets on M&S retail park with 30 jobs
Two well-known national firms - Costa and Subway - are planning to set up on the outskirts of Scunthorpe
They already have outlets in the town centre.
Plans have been lodged with North Lincolnshire Council for a drive-through restaurant and a restaurant unit with access roads, car parking, servicing areas and landscaping on the proposed retail park housing a new M&S store.
The applicants are Simons Developments Ltd, Costa Ltd and Subway Realtry Ltd.

Development is planned to the rear of the Trent Valley Garden Centre, off Doncaster Road.
The Costa Coffee drive through is said to represent "one of a growing number of the company’s out-of-centre orientated formats which are designed to complement the brand’s traditionally strong high-street portfolio, which includes a Scunthorpe Town Centre unit."
The other proposed unit will be occupied by Subway, which sells a range of hot and cold sandwiches for consumption on and off the premises.
The retailer already operates an equivalent sandwich shop in Scunthorpe town centre and it is understood the new facility, if approved by planners, will complement the existing one.
It is thought 30 people will be employed as a result of the proposals.
North Lincolnshire Council planners will welcome comments from members of the public up to April 1.
A decision is not expected to be made by the council before mid-May.

“30 it is then, but I still think that a "Click & Collect" service would be more apt for Costa. Lets face it, whenever you go in the one in Tesco at a weekend you're always in the queue for at least 20 minutes. Good luck to them.
Right, now how long before the council will be employing consultants to look at the viability of building a new train station down there?? Lets face it, as the council are dead set upon relocating the town centre to the edge of their Lincolnshire Lakes masterpiece and are setting aside money to declassify the M181 then they might as well go the whole nine yards and move the train station.
I just wish that they'd make a public statement tp the effect so that people knew where they stood and were not just being kept in the dark. The council have lots of plans for the out-of-town commerce but no plans for the existing town.”

“They could well need 30 staff - think about they need to fulfill an early shift as well as a late shift, 7 days a week has to be covered also there is likely to be supervisors and a store manager plus cleaning staff”

“30 staff probably isn't a lie, they need staff to work the early shift and staff to work the late shift to however late at night it opens til. Supervisors and store manager, cleaning staff. They need enough staff to ensure that 7 days a week can be covered.”

...........................................................................
More made up figures. Given that the Costa at Tesco employs about 5 people I can't really see that Subway is going to be fielding 25 employees. Or does this figure of 30 jobs also include the builders and contractors that build it.
Anyway, with another 30 employees added to the previous count of 300, that means that they'll soon be no parking spaces left for the customers!!”
