MOTORISTS could face more road misery as council officers embark on emergency repairs to the region's potholes.

The cycle of freezing and thawing of water has created fissures in roads across North Lincolnshire, causing extensive damage.

North Lincolnshire Council has received more than 40 reports of damaged road surfaces since the weekend, and has estimated each pothole will cost about £75 to repair.

Rob Beales, head of road maintenance at North Lincolnshire Council, said: "It is too early to say how much the roadworks will cost, but it definitely won't be anything like the multi-million pound sums predicted by other councils.

"We have already completed works in Normanby Road and Scotter Road, and would expect to have finished our programme of repairs by the end of January.

"There will be traffic light systems in place limiting motorists to one lane where these repairs are needed, to make sure drivers experience as little disruption as possible."

Emergency works were carried in Normanby Road and Scotter Road in Scunthorpe yesterday, the roads have been highlighted as two of four pothole hotspots in the region.

Frodingham Road and Queensway, both in Scunthorpe, have suffered extensive pothole damage and will be dealt with as a matter of priority according to council officials.

“3 men came today to repair the many pot holes on bridges road ....great but the road is being resurfaced starting on monday so why fill the pot holes if the road is being ripped up & re laid? Could it be that the council are going to do a bodge it job on the resurfacing & only put a layer of tarmac on the top of a really bad road?”

“If these holes were done correctly ,then the council wouldn't have to fix them so often. So i suppose them hurling a bit of asphalt in a shallow hole that will be useless in 6mths keeps people in jobs and off the streets.”

“Did you see the blokes tippingtarmac in the holes that stil had water in them on look north last night? The very thing that will make he tarmac come out is water underneath when the cold gets to it.They could of at least driede the hole with flame torches. Also there must be a temp cut off point for laying the stuff is now a good time if there ever is a good time ?”
