Council move to stop more losing homes
HOME-OWNERS facing repossession will be able to get advice and support earlier under new plans.
Fighting back at the current economic climate, North Lincolnshire Council has come up with a step-by-step way to help people avoid losing their homes.
-

SUPPORT: Members of North Lincolnshire Council and advice agencies who came together at Pittwood House to launch the new booklet to help people manage their debts.
A network of debt relief and repossession groups have been brought under a single brand and the council's Debt and Housing Advice Network has produced a leaflet with information and contact details on them all.
The move comes after a 20 per cent increase in the number of mortgage petitions issued at Scunthorpe County Court.
The court issued 450 mortgage repossession petitions in 2008 and 294 landlord petitions were issued for tenants.
Cabinet member for housing Coun Mick Grant said: "Many people aren't aware of the help that is available to them and often wait until it is too late to seek help.
"I am pleased that the agencies have come on board with us to help. This shows excellent partnership working.
"Through the booklet, we aim to highlight how these agencies can help and give key contact numbers so people can get in touch and get the help they need before it's too late.
Bodies involved include Surestart, Crosby Community Association, Citizens Advice Bureau, North Lincolnshire Homes and North Lincolnshire Council.

“This SOCIALIST council should of been warning homeseekers/owners about the impending housing crash in 2007, like I have been doing.
Mind you, they haven't a good track record themselves when it comes to financial planning, of course I'm refering to the ICELANDIC bank investments.
How many millions did you waste of our money?
BLIND LEADING THE BLIND!”

“All praise, But lets hope this isn't just one of those public relations exercises restricted to empty powers. Ultimately the Banks will still call the shots with many of the families with Mortgage re-payment issues. And up to now the Banks haven't listened to the Government so far, why will they listen to your local Council. But its a start in the right direction and I hope for the sake of those facing repossession its yields some results.”
