Council leader Coun Mark Kirk has welcomed continuing delays to a decision on Humber Bridge Tolls
He has called on ministers to end the debate on tolls for good by scrapping the charges.
A public inquiry in March has already seen the plan delayed by more than a year and ministers are still considering a planning inspector's report into the proposal.
Coun Kirk said: "I am aware a number of key organisations have been pressing the Government to act on the tolls and I know ministers are thinking long and hard on the way forward.
"This explains why no decision has yet been taken. That's fine by me.
"We are in the middle of a terrible economic downturn, as witnessed by the Corus announcement.
"Ministers will be aware what we are asking for on the tolls is a Yorkshire and Humber demand. That changes everything.
"It's important the tolls issue is sorted once and for all. If not, the calls for action will not go away."
The Bridge Board want to increase car charges from £2.70 to £2.90 each way and the cost for the heaviest lorries from £18.70 to £19.90 each way.

“Cllr Kirk, perhaps you might be better employed in your own ward.Try looking at the absolute parking chaos around ALL the schools on the Berkley estate caused by parents picking up /dropping off children.Parking laws are totally forgotten,it,s a case of dump the car anywhere, tough if people have to walk in the road because I,m blocking the pavement. They just literally make the area a no go area for local residents and Humberside Police dont give any reassurance as their motto says.Just remember local residents voted you in and they could as easily vote you out next election.”

“Capt. KIRK,
I have just received a communication from Starfleet Command. They are having difficulty making contact with you
(similar to the Scunthorpe electorate)
They have requested me to remind you that you should not interfere in the developments of new civilisations you discover. Therefor you are instructed to get Scotty to beam you, Grant and especially MORLEY back up to the Enterprise and get the heck out of there.”

“Kirk,
Shut up you have nothing worth saying. Keep your head down as the NLC expences scandal is about to be released.”
