AFTER an hour's delay because of fog, Holme Hall held their annual Farmery Cup match, a mixed Am/Am competition with teams made up from the lady veterans and the men's seniors sections.

With one man and one lady to count at each hole and playing on a full course in benign, cool and dull conditions the scoring in a field of 60 players was surprisingly good.

They won on a count-back, ahead of Doreen Bowring, Marion Belton, Keith Graham and Martin Lings.

In third place, again after a count back, with 84 points (41 back nine) were Irene Glennie, Rosemary Cranidge, John Walker and Alan Dawes.

The lady vets played with the senior men, with two ladies and two men in each team and one lady and one man to score in each team.

The overall winners were ladies captain Patricia Smith, lady vets organiser Elaine Farmery, seniors captain Mark Ellis and Ian Robinson with an outstanding score of 85.

The ladies braved the elements to play a nine-hole betterball for the ladies' captain's charity day for Cancer Care.

In third place was Jean List and Enid Meadows with 15 points and a better back six.

Second place went to Jenny Kennedy and Elaine Farmery with 17 points and in first place was Sheila Petchey and Ann Boyle with 20 points.
