"2013 could be a really exciting year for the Telegraph Golf Challenge and I wish the best of luck to everyone who takes part," said Michelle Lalor, editor of the Grimsby Telegraph and former editor of the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The Telegraph Golf Challenge was first launched in 1996 and has since developed into the biggest and most popular knockout competition in Northern Lincolnshire.

It involves players from almost every club in the Scunthorpe and Grimsby areas.

Last year more than 400 players took part in the competition which featured, for the first time, a seniors section for men aged 60 and above.

The closing date for entries for the 2013 Telegraph Challenge is Friday, March 29 – that gives you five weeks to fill in the form (right) and return it to us.

The entry fee is once again £30 per pair, as it has been for each of the past two years.

The draw for the first round of the men's and senior sections will take place on Monday, April 11.

The full draws will then be featured in both the Grimsby Telegraph and Scunthorpe Telegraph on Thursday, April 14 – and then the tournament will be under way. Each pair will be notified via e-mail about who they have been drawn against, together with the necessary contact details.

The pair drawn first will have home advantage and it is their responsibility to contact their opponents and offer three possible dates as to when their match may be played.

Last year there were four qualifying rounds to the men's section before 16 pairs went through to the finals day at Forest Pines, who will again be sponsoring the Challenge – and hosting the finals on Thursday, September 26. This will be a month after Forest Pines have staged this year's British Schoolboy Home Internationals, featuring teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Round two of the men's competition will be played by Sunday, July 7, round three by Sunday, August 11 and round four by Sunday, September 15.

All matches this year, both in qualifying and the finals, will be played off yellow tees for the men and seniors.

All players are also urged to make sure their handicaps are active.

• A JUNIOR section to the Telegraph Golf Challenge is to be introduced this year.

It will be an invitational team event open to all clubs in northern Lincolnshire.

It will be staged at Forest Pines on Friday, May 31.

Full details will be announced shortly and circulated to all clubs.
