Cricket legend Sir Ian Botham helps spread the good news about Scunthorpe
Further evidence that sporting legend Sir Ian Botham retains his keen interest in Scunthorpe has been provided by a local cricket official.
Del Crabb, of Scunthorpe Town Cricket Club, told members of the Ashby Road based team's Facebook group last night: "For those that don't Tweet, I thought you might like to know that a certain Sir Ian Botham retweeted about us needing 9 points to win the league and qualify for ECB League cricket.

Scunthorpe Town cricketers be playing at Broughton on Saturday in their final game of the season in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League premier division.
A decent performance will see them overtake current leaders Alford and land the title.
Former England cricket captain and star all-rounder, Sir Ian lived in Epworth during the 1980s and also played football for Scunthorpe United for a number of seasons.
Sir Ian and Lady Botham returned to Scunthorpe in March when he officially opened the new Ironstone Health Centre - meeting up again with his former Iron team-mate, Vince Grimes, who is now captain of the Appleby-Frodingham Cricket Club second team.

“Sir Ian's always tweeting stuff about Scunthorpe, particularly the Iron. Whenever asked which football team he supports he always tweets SUFC The Mighty Iron. I also believe he was bigging up Scunthorpe in regard to the turf being supplied to Lord's recently, when he was on Sky Sports.”
