Criminal-to-lawyer tale hits big screen
AN ex-convict from Scunthorpe who became a top lawyer and successfully defended a suspected terrorist is to have his life turned into a movie.
Former retained firefighter Yaqub Hussain, 40, spent two months at HMP Wolds prison after he became involved in a fight in Scunthorpe town centre in 1998.
-

Yaqub Hussain decided in prison he wanted to become a lawyer. Now his story is to be made into a film.
But after being freed, he earned a law degree and now works for one of London's top criminal law firms where he has already successfully defended Donald Stewart-Whyte.
Stewart-Whyte was one of the men accused in the 2006 'liquid bomb plot' to detonate liquid explosives on 10 airliners travelling from the United Kingdom to North America.
Now the inspirational story of how Yaqub, who grew up in Scunthorpe, turned his life around is to be made into a movie.
"All those who think people are prejudiced and say that people do not give you the opportunity – its not true, you cannot use colour as an excuse," Yaqub told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"And if this message doesn't come from people like me it's never going to come – this is the idea behind the movie.
"You do not need to turn to violence – everybody deserves a chance.
"I got involved in an altercation in Scunthorpe and I was up for perverting the course of justice.
"The next thing, I was locked up. I've never been in trouble before. It was a shock to the system."

“Hey Bobby B,
Great Story, you deserve all the succes in the world, as you continued to battle against all odds. I was there from the time you spent sleeping in cars, to washing potatoes, selling veg as Bobbys fruit and Veg, Sunday markets, etc. etc. You never stopped believing, Your self belief, your faith in Allah, your determination and the will to succeed has got you to where you are today.
The other great thing, you have not changed a bit, the same old Bobs and we love you for this. Good luck Yakub. Your story should inspire others to follow their dreams and carry on when the going gets tough.”

“I can't believe it, i was looking for a solicitor when Yaqub came up, it's great to read the comments about Yaqub as i thought he was just a fighting coach. I've watched Yaqub train fighters at 6.30 in the morning at Clapham Junction and these guys look the business and are totally disciplined by Yaqub. Yaqub, you're a very polite person and i would like to wish you the best of luck in whatever you do in future.”

“Brilliant, i met yaqub whilst working on the terror liquid plot in 2009 at woolwich CC. i was only there for a few weeks working for another company. And i have to say that Yaqub was the most genuine legal representative there. And i thank God that an innocent man was spared due to the intervention of Yaqub. Thankfully the client listened to Yaqub over his legal teams, otherwise an innocent man would have ended up in jail. I'm so proud of you Yaqub!”

“Yacub¿s life journey is a story of great proportion and an inspiration to millions of Brothers and Sisters who believe their achievements are limited, to those who may feel held back, to those who need testimony of what you can accomplish simply by applying yourself.
Primary growing up in a society where your story would be stereotypically predestined by society then having the gift to not only break from that stereotyping but also achieve true greatness is a sign of magnanimous power, power in yourself, power in faith.
An early life paved with opportunities of misguidance and stereotyping will evidently lead to the path of destruction, but for the righteous, the path of construction.
Yacub my friend you are truly a righteous man with Allah (God) on his side, I celebrate you and your future my friend.”

“Yaqub made 1 mistake and "paid" for this. We are all lucky he has the guts and personal qualities to turn a very negative experience into something positive that is benefiting everyone! Well done Yaqub and please keep up the great work you are doing and I hope your own experiences will inspire people!”
