Cyclist dies in Scunthorpe hospital overnight after road accident near Wroot

A cyclist died today in Scunthorpe General Hospital after being involved in a road traffic collision at 7.35pm last night (Monday Sept 10) in the Isle of Axholme.

The collision happened on Idle Bank, close to Wroot, and involved a black Range Rover Sport being driven by a 21-year-old Epworth man.

Police said the vehicle and the cycle were travelling in the same direction when the collision occurred, resulting in the cyclist sustaining head injuries.

He was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital but died in the early hours of this morning.

The cyclist was a 40-year-old local man.

The driver of the Range Rover was uninjured.

Police closed the road for several hours to enable the scene to be examined and it was re-opened about 1.30am.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and are seeking witnesses.

Anyone who saw the incident, or the bicycle or Range Rover prior to the collision, is asked to call Humberside Police on 101, referring to log 715 of 10 September 2012.
