THE pressure is back on Scunthorpe United again tonight to finally find a way of ending their horrendous home record.

And no-one will feel it more than striker Chris Dagnall, who is likely to come back into the team to face promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest.

The 24-year-old knows he is playing for his place in the Iron's new-look starting line-up.

He gets his chance again because one of those new faces is Forest loanee Joe Garner, who is not allowed to play against his parent club.

But it is the Iron's other loan front man Lee Miller, from Middlesbrough, who Dagnall is hoping will bring the best out of him.

The former Rochdale man has always thrived playing alongside a big man up front and six foot two inch Miller might just fill that bill.

"It's going to be a tough game against Forest because they are a big club and going very well at the moment," said Dagnall.

"They may be playing in the Premier League next season.

"But these are the games that you want to play in. That's why I came to Scunthorpe, to get the chance to play at Championship level.

"And I am hoping to still be doing that next season.

"But it's now or never, we really have got to start turning our home form around

"I have never seen runs last so long like this before. It's unbelievable really.

"We have played well at times, without getting the win we deserved.

"We just want that little bit of luck to help us turn things around – and hopefully that will start tonight."

Though Dagnall has found himself a victim of the influx of new faces into the Glanford Park dressing room, he insists it has been a good thing for the club.

Only three of the expected starting line-up from the scheduled first Forest game last December are expected to begin tonight's re-arranged fixture, excluding Dagnall who is just returning to the first team, symbolising the size of the turnaround at Glanford Park during the past two months.

"The squad definitely needed a bit of freshening up," he continued.

"The new lads have brought a different atmosphere into the dressing room.

"It has also created plenty of competition for places – and that is a good thing too.

"People can begin to get too comfortable if they think they are going to be playing week in, week out.

"Now everyone knows they have got to play well to keep the shirt."

Dagnall knows he is also under pressure personally to start getting on the score-sheet more.

He has netted only four times in the Championship all season – and none of those have come at Glanford Park.

His last goal was in the 2-0 victory at Burnley back on December 28.

But when Dagnall does score, it tends to be a lucky omen for Scunthorpe.

He struck twice in the 4-0 triumph at Bramall Lane and also netted in the 3-2 success at Preston.

"With Joe Garner unable to play tonight, hopefully I will get my chance back in the team," said the diminutive front man.

"It will be the first time I have played up front alongside a big man for Scunthorpe.

"Doing that seems to bring out the best in my game.

"Hopefully that will create one or two extra chances.

"I will take a goal any way it comes at the moment, even one that goes in off my backside.

"At this moment in time we are just looking for anything to give us a scrappy win.

"I think the signs are there that the new lads are beginning to gel into the squad.

"Not many teams will go to Cardiff this season and keep them out for 85 minutes.

"Once we can get that monkey off our back with our home form, then hopefully we can put a little run together.

"If we can do that, then there are plenty of games left to get us out of trouble.

"When I first joined Rochdale, they too were struggling, but gradually the squad came together and we went on to win promotion last season.

"That's what we have got to try and do here, and build on the new squad that is here now."

Like a number of other players in the squad at Glanford Park, Dagnall knows that playing for Scunthorpe offers them their best chance of Championship football.

It is that hunger which just might make the difference in the closing weeks of the season.

“Absolutely - he's got goals in him, so long as he's played in the right position.”

“Let's hope Dagnall actually stays in an advanced position and doesn't end up running around like a headless chicken on the half way line.”
