Daylight robbery of Scunthorpe woman (81) in Healey Road

An elderly Scunthorpe woman had her handbag snatched as she walked along Healey Road in the town.

The 81-year-old victim was heading towards the shops and was crossing the road in front of Costcutter, at the junction of Healey Road and Warley Road, when a small, beige-coloured car, being driven by a man, pulled up at the roadside.

The front seat passenger, a woman, asked for directions before grabbing the woman’s handbag.

The car then drove off along Healey Road, towards East Common Lane.

The woman in the car is described as white, aged about 30, with dark brown or black hair worn underneath a light brown headscarf. She was wearing a dark coat.

The stolen bag contained a purse, keys and some cash.

It is described as a shopping bag – slightly larger than the average handbag.

The victim sustained a minor graze to the thumb but did not require hospital treatment.

The incident happened about 11am on Wednesday, October 31.

Police are seeking witnesses to the robbery and are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Crime Team at Scunthorpe Police Station by calling 101 and referring to log 210 of 31 October 2012.
