THE winning designs for the second phase of a £200,000 community play area have been unveiled.

The Manor Park Fund committee has revealed the next phase of its plans to create a play area on Johnson's Lane playground in Crowle.

Play equipment provider SMP has scored a home run after 70 per cent of children at Crowle Primary School, who looked at the designs, said they liked their equipment more than the designs submitted by Playdale.

Martin Ely, Playbuilder project manager for North Lincolnshire Council, said: "I consulted children in years one and two at Crowle Primary School.

"Of the 60 children consulted, 70 per cent chose SMP and 30 per cent chose Playdale's design.

"The Manor Park Fund committee went with the children's choice following a good look at both designs.

Mr Ely added: "SMP also won the phase one teen area and therefore should be providing good value for money."

The phased play area, which is to provide equipment for all ages, is expected to be completed by Easter next year.

SMP designs for phase one include a zip line, a basket swing, a junior swing, slide, three pieces of gym equipment, plus a metal picnic area.

Phase two includes swings, roundabouts, talking posts and bouncy springs – to name but a few.

The park will be closed from the first week in December to enable phase one work to start.

Committee members and supervisors are also planting 2,006 trees on the site on December 6 and 7 with pupils from Crowle Primary School, when six large 6-7ft trees and 2,000 whips about 3ft tall will be planted.

David Parkin, chairman of Manor Park Fund committee, said: "Phase one should be completed by early January and we've chosen the winning designs for phase two which looks good.

"We just need the money for phase three to come through and hopefully the whole project can be finished for Easter."

Jenny Garnett, area sales manager, added: "SMP (Playgrounds) Ltd are delighted to have been chosen to provide the new play area in Johnson's Lane, Crowle.

"The play area, designed by our dedicated play architect and chosen by the local community, will truly reflect the local community needs, providing stimulating and exciting play for young people, fitness training for all ages on the action stations while also being in keeping with the natural environment."

The Manor Park Fund committee is looking for help from a professional to erect the 130m, chestnut pailing fence around the park's perimeter.

Anybody who would like to help fundraise should call David Parkin on 01724 710994.

“Interesting, I was under the assumption Crowle had TWO Primary schools!!! So why does only one school seem to be involved in this scheme?!”
